Piece description:

This is my favorite recent piece, completed in 2023. You’ll recognize the reaching arms from Michaelangelo’s The Creation of Adam piece in the Sistine Chapel. 

I love the imagery of God being near, mostly because I’ve been experiencing the divine since I was around 5. The idea in this piece is that the divine is not only close by but pervasive everywhere all the time, available to interact with and delight in. 

The moth represents being drawn to light, and the koi represents peace.

I wanted to nod to the masterwork of Michaelangelo and bring it into a contemporary, almost pop context. The painting has lived above my bed and serves as a reminder of the immediate proximity of the divine, all the time.
