Description
This piece was inspired by an excerpt from a children’s story I cherish. One of the characters tells the evil witch, “Suppose this black pit of a kingdom of yours is the only world. Well, it strikes me as a pretty poor one. And that’s a funny thing, when you come to think of it. We’re just babies making up a game, if you’re right. But four babies playing a game can make a play-world which licks your real world hollow.” He tells the witch that they’ll keep looking for the world they remember, even if it isn’t real, and live as if it is anyway.
I love that sentiment because it’s absolutely true and applicable: believing in the life you want is the only way to find your way to it. The idea that we can make our own path (and we’re designed to do so) is a guiding principle for me.
So, in this piece you see a man holding up a light, stepping through a doorway or portal, and looking for what he believes will be there if he keeps going. My reference photo came from a street style photographer– I love and collect street style imagery and enjoy incorporating clothes into my work.
