Description
During Covid, almost all the art I made had to do with environmentalism, social justice, and sustainability. I saw the pandemic as an opportunity to speak to the shock we all experienced: Doesn’t society seem a little… flimsy?
I ran a newsletter at the time about rebuilding differently post-Covid, and returning to life with more sustainable thinking, habits, and purchases in our lives.
With a strong frustration with fast fashion, I started a fashion drawing that shows closeness and alignment with natural creatures who often bear the brunt of our waste.
My research around sustainability brought my newsletter to a close in 2022. I realized that our entire system has been built on extractive principles– down to our view on work, relationships, and what success looks like– and addressing the symptoms of physical waste was not the most effective route for me to make a difference.
I do deeply feel that the automatic grooves society sets us in, though they may provide security and convenience, are very out of alignment with our biological and emotional nature. This is part of why I believe in designing one’s own life: Only through 100% agency and volition everywhere can we habituate a 100% nurturing and fulfilling life.
